Apple Announces New iPad Air and New iPad Mini

ipad_air_feature

Today, Apple announced their new iPad. With 170 million iPads sold worldwide it has been a game-changing success for the Cupertino based tech company. Currently, the iPad is the best tablet computer for watching movies. This is true largely because of the number of quality movie apps that are available for iOS devices.

The fifth generation Apple tablet is named the iPad Air. The iPad Air is 20% thinner than the fourth generation iPad and weighs only 1 pound. Apple claims that it is the lightest full size tablet in the world.

It features Apple’s new A7 processor. According to their presentation the A7 is 8x faster than the original iPad. The iPad Air will have 72x faster graphics when compared to the original iPad. It has a 5MP, HD FaceTime camera. And the iPad Air will have 10 hours of battery life. It will cost $499 and it will become available for purchase on November 1st.

Apple also announced their new iPad Mini. The significant upgrade to this device is its display. The iPad Mini now features a Retina Display with 2048x 1536 resolution. That is more pixels than a high definition television. The pricing for this device will start at $399.

Apple also announced that all iLife and iWork apps will now be free with every iPad purchase. This includes iMovie, Garageband, iPhoto, Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

The iPad Mini Review: The Best Small Tablet for Watching Movies, Top Five Reasons

Read the article or watch the video.

For many years people have accused Apple of being closed and limiting their customer’s options. Even though I am a Mac user, I often agreed with this assessment. But when it comes to movies on the iPad Mini this is actually not true.

Here are my top five reasons why the iPad Mini is the best small tablet for movie lovers.

The iPad Mini has the Most Video Options

Of all small tablet options, including tablets from Amazon, Samsung and Google, the iPad Mini actually can access the most video. Amazon only allows its Kindle tablets to buy from Amazon Instant Video.  And Google and Samsung can only buy movies from Google Play. The iPad Mini can use purchased movies from Amazon Instant, Vudu, and, of course, the iTunes store.

The iPad Mini has the Best Downloadable Movie Option, iTunes

When it comes to digital downloadable content the iPad Mini is the only small tablet that has access to extras, like director’s commentary and deleted scenes. This is true because it can get video from iTunes and Vudu the only digital download options that offer movie extras. Amazon Instant and Google Play do not offer any extras.

The iPad Mini has the Best Battery Life

The reviews are in, and they all agree, this device stands up to the test of time when it comes to watching movies. You get 12 hours of movie watching, 20 percent better than the closest competition.

The iPad Mini is the Best for Shooting and Editing Your Own Video

Shooting and editing your own video on this device is solid. With a 1080p camera and iMovie you are set the make you own family movie.

AirPlay

And the fifth reason why the iPad Mini is the best small tablet for watching movies is simply AirPlay. Any thing that you can play on the device will play on an Apple TV. It is simple and easy. Currently, Google and Amazon do not have anything that competes.

So, there are my top five reasons. Do you agree? Android users, do you want to push a contender? What do you think? Comment on our Youtube channel or below.

Google Announces New Tablets!

Google Nexus 7 Tablet

Today Google announced updates to its table line. The Nexus 7 has been refreshed with a lower weight and more storage. It now weighs 12 oz., and has up to 32GB of storage. The 7 inch HD screen has a resolution of 1280×800. It has a front-facing camera and uses a micro USB connection for charging. It offers mobile access and a quad-core processor. With up to 10 hours of battery life it gives you plenty of time to stay connected. With only access to Google Play for movies and music the new tablet has limited media options. The strength of this tablet is the integration with Google’s services. It includes apps for Google Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Google+ and Youtube. Google’s Nexus 7 will give Apple’s new iPad Mini a competitive battle at a price point of $199.

Google Nexus 10 Tablet

With the announcement of the iPad Mini, Apple invaded Google smaller-screen-tablet-territory. Today Google fired back with its Nexus 10, 10-inch tablet. Starting at $399 the Nexus 10 claims the title of the world’s highest resolution tablet display. The resolution is 2560-by-1600 besting the current iPad’s resolution of 2048-by-1536. This larger screened competitor weighs 8% less than the full size iPad and includes Micro HDMI. It includes front and rear cameras. The strength of this tablet is the integration with Google’s services. It works with Google Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Google+ and Youtube. It only offers wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi.

All major competitors are now all-in. Samsung, Apple, Google and Amazon offer tablets across the tablet spectrum. Oh, wait, what about Microsoft? We will need to wait and see if their new offering gets any traction in the tablet battle.

WaysToWatch.com iPad Mini Giveaway Contest!

iPad Mini Black & Slate

This week Apple announced their new iPad Mini, the newest member of their iPad family. They are promising a full iPad experience on this smaller device. Apple promises 10 hours of battery life. With this device Apple took a different approach from other competitors. The iPad Mini’s screen is  7.9 inches instead of the typical 7inches. Since the mini keeps the same aspect ratio as the full size iPad all of the nearly 300,000 iPad apps should work well on the new device. Any one who owns digital content from the iTunes store will enjoy the same seamless experience.  The design will help the mini stand out from the pack. It is only 7.2 mm thick and weighs only 0.68 lbs. This new iPad fills in the gap between the size of the iPod Touch and the iPad. Starting at $329 it is a premium price compared to Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. The iPad Mini will definitely increase the pressure on the competition. Stay tuned for the WaysToWatch.com unboxing of the iPad Mini.

Apple’s New iPad Mini

Apple’s new iPad Mini in Black or White

Today, Apple has introduced the iPad Miniinto its repertoire of products. The long rumored iPad Mini has finally made its debut in time for the holiday shopping season and like its full size predecessor is sure to get lots of attention from consumers.

The Mini’s 7.97 inch screen has a 1024×768 resolution (same as iPad2) and it has Apple’s Dual Core A5 chip so movie watchers will not be disappointed with their viewing experience even with a smaller screen.

With the iPad Mini being 7.2mm (“as thin as a pencil”) and .68 lbs (“as light as a pad of paper”), not only does it fit in one hand but it may be a good option for parents to use for their kids to hold as they watch their movies.

As with most Apple products, the cutting edge engineering and beautiful design comes at a price…a high dollar price.  The base model for the iPad Mini has a price point of $329 which fits nicely (for Apple) between the iPod Touch and the full sized iPad models but is significantly higher than its direct competitors. Google’s Nexus 7 ($199) and Amazon’s Kindle Fire ($159) certainly have the edge on the Mini from a pricing standpoint however, with over 275,000 iPad optimized apps, iTunes music, iBooks, podcasts, tv shows, and of course movie collections along with other products/accessories all part of Apple’s integrated ecosystem consumers will get a lot of bang for their buck.

The iPad Mini is available for preorder October 26th and ships November 2nd.   Come back to WaysToWatch.com for our unboxing of the new iPad Mini on November 2nd.
